ABORTION
Abortion
I have never really been a supportive member of this modern tactic, pleasantly known as man-made miscarriage. On the other hand, I see the advantage of it when it comes to cases like a deformed child, a down-syndrome child, a raped victim and the list goes on. And being part of the ‘modern society’, I appreciate the fact that with the presence of this modern tactic, choices are always ours. I mean no point giving birth to a child if you are not ready. You do not want a child to suffer right? It is easy to give birth to a child; the real test lies in the next dozen of years ahead. To me it’s really false kindness or braveness to just take the child when God sends it. I used ‘it’, for all who agrees to abortion does not regard the foteus as a person. Really. Or else you will have to explain to me why you kill a person, an adult, a child or even a baby is murder but to kill a foteus it’s merely known as abortion. And I have heard of cases whereby
But (you do see it coming right? I am anyway a Catholic now you know) things changes as I begin to know more about my Faith. I realized human beings like to play God too much. We yearn the power to control, to say no to anything just as long as we believe that we are not ready. That is, even another human being who would have a past and a future until we decide to say no to his/her present. Who decides when you are ready? How do you define ‘ready’? Who shall carry the yardstick? What will the foteus say if he/she can talk? Please don’t?
In all things remember the 3 Cs – Conscience, Choice and Consequences. Does doing away with a child agree with your conscience? Your own child. Your flesh and blood. And try to consider the consequences too. Will you ever be ready? Will it be too late when you are ready? Will you regret it?
Of course there are the more inevitable cases like the medical cases. For instance a down-syndrome child. Will you want to have one? The answer is obvious. Of course as future parents, the first thing that comes to mind is that the child will be sad. But truthfully I have seldom seen a sad down syndrome child. The task, I must say really weighs on the parents. Can they receive this special child? The challenges, hardships and worries that follow. Our God is a kind God. As to why there are normal and abnormal children, I do not know. But that does not change the fact that he is a kind God. And should He sends you such a child you know that you do have the ability to take care of him/her for every child is a God’s gift and with God on your side, you can conquer all things. And I do believe all children are a bundle of joy.
So smile and count your blessings if you are a parent or a parent-to be.
